Winter Botany & Wild Foraged Tea w/ Marc Williams

February 15 @ 12:30 pm 4:00 pm

Workshop Featured Winter Botany

About the Workshop: Winter Botany & Wild Foraged Tea

Grow your foraging skills with this immersive Winter Botany and Wild Foraging Workshop and garden walk designed to awaken your senses and deepen your relationship with the natural world. Led by ethnobotanist and long-time Firefly instructor and friend, Marc Williams, participants will explore the art of plant identification during one of the most challenging and rewarding times of the year – when flowers, fruits, and leaves have mostly disappeared, leaving subtle clues in their place.

This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to expand their knowledge of botany and practical Asheville-area foraging during the winter dormant phase.

During this class, we will:

  • Embark on a garden walk to meet and identify local plants
  • Engage in dialogue about off-season plant characteristics and ethnobotanical applications
  • Discuss various resources for further study
  • Deepen our relationship with some plant friends as we connect with them in their dormant state
  • Finish the afternoon with wild foraged tea and connection

Skills that will be learned and practiced include: basic and winter botany, foraging/ethnobotany, and wild tea preparation.

This class will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 12:30 – 4:00 pm near Asheville, NC.

This class is suitable everyone! The minimum age is 10 with an adult.

Lily Harlin

Bookkeeper

Lily is an artist, creator, and dreamer. Since a very young age, she has been immersed in the natural world and draws heavy inspiration from the wild. Though her medium changes frequently, Lily’s art and expression always incorporate an element of the organic and unpredictable. She got her associate in fine arts in 2023, and now volunteers at her school as a ceramic studio monitor. She hopes to open a studio of her own one day to have a place to teach and inspire others. In addition to doing commission work, Lily has been creating many graphics for The Firefly Gathering since 2019. Lily grew up in the Earthskills community from the time she was eight years old, so having the opportunity to grow and give back in so many ways has been incredibly fulfilling. No matter where she ends up, this group of people and ideas will always hold a special place in her heart.
