Bone has met the material needs for peoples the world over since time immemorial. Harder and sharper than wood, less brittle than stone, this often overlooked gift from our animal kin provides a doorway to connection to the natural world. As we work with bone, we deepen our understanding of animal bodies and how they relate to our own. During this class, students will clean, shape and polish deer phalanges into beautiful, functional whistles, replicating historical artifacts found across the globe.

This class is suitable for all skill levels. The minimum age is 12 with adult.
For over 20 years Josh Barnwell (he/they) has been inspired by the natural world and the ways it has provided material needs for humanity the world over. He spends his time in Tennessee with his feral family, pursuing cyclical, seasonal, nature inspired crafts and leading workshops from his farmstead and at earthskills gatherings around the east coast.
